AMC Pilot Progress
Pneumococcal diseases kill more than 1.6 million people worldwide each year, including at least 800,000 children. Ninety-nine percent of these deaths occur in the world's poorest countries. The most effective way to prevent these deaths is to ensure children have access to effective, safe and affordable vaccines. The pilot Advance Market Commitment (AMC) is designed to protect children and save lives. Through donor commitments, this innovative funding mechanism incentivises vaccine makers to produce vaccines for the world's poorest countries. These countries are then able to plan for immunization programs knowing that vaccines will be available rapidly, in the quantities they need and at affordable prices. |
