Media Advisory - Vaccines Launch of the First Global AMC Project for the Poorer Nations

CEREMONY ON 9 FEBRUARY 2007 AT THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE AND ECONOMY SPEAKERS INCLUDE PADOA-SCHIOPPA, BROWN, FLAHERTY, WETLAND, WOLFOWITZ IN THE PRESENCE OF QUEEN RANIA OF JORDAN The first global project for the development of vaccines against endemic diseases known as AMC (Advanced Market Commitments for Vaccines), promoted in the G7 framework to save millions of lives in the poorest countries and support their economic development with new methods, will be officially launched in Rome on Friday 9 February. Italy, leading the project since 2005, the United Kingdom, Canada and Norway will announce their firm financial contribution to cover the specific development of a vaccine against the pneumococcus virus. At the ceremony, held at 12:30 in the Salone della Maggioranza of the Ministry of Finance and Economy, speakers will include: Minister of Economy and Finance, Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa;
Her Majesty Queen Rania al-Abdullah of Jordan will be present at the ceremony.
