SPEAKER BIOS
Mr. Ignazio Angeloni, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Italy

Mr. Carlo Monticelli, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Italy
Carlo Monticelli is Director in the International Financial Relation Department in the Italian Ministry of Economics and Finance. He is the Financial Sous-Sherpa in the G8 Process and follows several international matters, including the G-20 group and Development activity. Before joininig the Ministry, Dr. Monticelli was Chief Economist for Europe at Deutsche Bank, London and Vice-Director of Monetary Affairs in the Research Department of the Bank of Italy. He holds degrees from the Universities of Genoa, York, Ancona and Oxford and has been visiting scholar at MIT. He has written extensively on international, monetary and macroeconomic issues in academic journals and has published European integration, monetary coordination and the demand for money with Oxford University Press.

Mr. Michel Zaffran, deputy executive secretary and chief policy and technical officer of the GAVI Alliance

Michel Zaffran was appointed deputy executive secretary of the GAVI Alliance in February 2006, with responsibility over technical and policy areas. An engineer and epidemiologist by training, he had spent the previous 18 years working at the World Health Organization, most recently leading WHO's efforts in the areas of immunization financing, vaccine quality, and management and supply of vaccines. During that time, he represented WHO on the GAVI Financing Task Force. He also spent four years in charge of strategic planning for the WHO department of Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals. Zaffran is a French national, born in Algeria in 1956. He has received degrees from l'Ecole Centrale, France, and Technische Hochschule, Darmstadt, Germany, and received subsequent training in tropical epidemiology.

Dr. Orin Levine, Executive Director of GAVI’s PneumoADIP and associate professor of international health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

Before coming to Johns Hopkins as an Associate Professor in the Department of International Health, Dr. Levine spent 5 years at the CDC followed by 3 years with the US National Institutes of Health. Dr. Levine has authored/coauthored more than 50 original research papers and book chapters, including more than 25 on the subject of meningitis and pneumonia and their prevention by vaccination.
